Crouch(klek)-Art Basement Project
The Crouch(klek)-Art Basement Project of ICA-Sofia is a new exhibition space, located on the border between the city street and the city building – it is in a typical Sofia basement. The notorious Sofia klek(crouch)-shop, a typical witness to the period of economical and political transformation after 1989, is used as a model. Just like the klek(crouch)-shop situation of shopping, the shows in the ICA-Sofia’s Crouch(klek)-Art Basement Project require the viewer to bend down and crouch, which might be taken as a sign of respect and participation.
The mission of this project is to be a constant “anchor” of contemporary art in our city, which people will hopefully get used to. The Crouch(klek)-Art Basement Project will present works by Bulgarian and international artists, whose work is based on open and accessible visual communication.
